Polygamy in Provo Utah?

Hi you guys. I had a simple, yet somewhat personal question... I'm thinking hard about moving to the Utah area after I graduate from college. I've been looking into the Provo area, it looks beautiful!! Hiking paths, mountains, canyons, rivers, lakes... and the weather seems great year-round. My main question at this point is this: do the Mormons practice Polygamy in many areas of Utah? I am not a Mormon nor would I appreciate being a second wife to somebody. I don't want to get involved with men who have multiple women. Will that be an issue in Provo, Utah? Or the surrounding areas? If anybody could get back to me with an answer on this, I would love to know more. Thanks alot!!Polygamy in Provo Utah?
There are a few so-called "polygamists" in Utah/Salt Lake/Provo, but they're not actually breaking the law since one 1 wife is the legal wife, and the other is just a spiritual wife.

Anyways, the Mormons DO NOT practice polygamy. The LDS church condemned it. The FLDS practice polygamy, and a few mormon families here and there live in polygamous-like households (you'd never know it though, since they wear regular clothes and hold regular jobs, and just have a crap ton of kids). The FLDS church is not located there.

Anyways, you won't run into that anywhere in Utah. Those people keep to themselves.

However, what you WILL run into in Provo is a LOT of mormons, so if your aim is to date and stuff, you won't get far in Provo. People down at BYU typically date with the intent to get married and only really date/marry other mormons. Provo also has virtually no nightlife and is almost entirely LDS.

If you want to live in Utah without such a strong LDS aspect, go up North more to Salt Lake City. There's just as much hiking and stuff around SLC, and you can always drive 20 minutes South to Provo Canyon. SLC is actually closer to more stuff, since you can go down to Provo, up to Ogden/Logan, East to Park City, or West to the lake.

SLC is the gateway to more things. From SLC you can access about 7 ski resorts, tons of hiking trails, biking trails, lakes, Parley's Canyon, Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, Logan Canyon, Weber river, Provo Canyon, etc. Provo is close to Salt Lake, so you can still do things down there without living in an all-mormon town.
have fun in Utah, do you know how to use a plow and oxPolygamy in Provo Utah?
Stop screwing with me.....Polygamy......Stop it.
I live in Utah...have since 1982.

I'm not, never have been and never will be a Mormon.

I'm fine here.

Second, polygamy is against the law.

So the FEW sects that do practice it are excommunicated from the Mormon church.

Most of the polygamy sects are along the Utah/Arizona border anyway.

There are a few here and there throughout Northernn Utah, but they are few and far between.

Provo is heavily influenced by the LDS church however..Salt Lake and the communities North are more diverse.

I live about 30 miles north of SLC.

I've never used a plow or ox. (stereotyping is not nice)Polygamy in Provo Utah?
Only with FLDS on the UT/AZ boarder.
There is no polygamy in Provo, Utah. Pick up this months edition of "National Geographic" magazine. There is an extensive article on polygamy, which explains where these cults are located and how they work. You could probably even read it online. You would have to seek them out and join their religion on order to become one of them, they don't just roam the streets of Utah looking for extra wives. It's not likely that you'll even meet up with one in mainstream society, as they don't normally stray outside their compounds. Polygamist men marry wives who were born and raised in the cult and know no other way of life. Any outsider would not be welcome in the group, especially a Mormon. Even traditional mormons in Utah consider polygamists outcasts and weirdos. Polygamy is illegal in Utah, and provo is a big modern city. You should have no problem meeting a regular one-woman guy. You rproblem wil be meeting a guy who is not Mormon. Mormons don't marry non-mormons. Not ever.
How many times are you going to ask this question? Polygamy is illegal, if someone asks you to live it have them arrested.

I would be more worried about the guy who want's to sleep with you without a commitment of marriage (which would be more prevalent everywhere but Utah), how many kids has he had with how many women and what kinds of diseases does he carry. This seems to be okay with society, but if you actually want to make a commitment to more than one it is illegal, LOL.

So live in Utah, no polygamy and less men that think it's OK to sleep with as many women as they want.
utah is beautiful - but the weather can be gruelling for some - hot summers, cold winters.

mormons (LDS) don't practice polygamy @all. those who do, don't refer to themselves as mormons - only the media does that.

there are some polygamists in utah, as well as arizona, canada, texas........small groups, and very much keep to themselves.
Mormons dont practice polygamy. FLDS do. They are not the same religion.

Provo is beautiful. I lived there for about 4 years and I miss it. You are literally living right against this massive gorgeous mountainside and theres a lake on the other side of town. Its pretty. Lots of Mormons, just not the kind you are thinking of.
There aren't that many polygamist there. They are very unfriendly to outsiders and will not be social with you. That is not to worry about.

You might find the social life there somewhat stifling unless you are ultra conservative.

Don't they have bad smog like Salt Lake?
