Where in the SouthWest is an acceptable place to find a MINIMUM wage job and a cheap studio or apartment?

I am moving out there from Boston. I know many of you will say don't go but I love the southwest, the desert and the weather(yeah it's hot but no humidity!)

I am considering New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and West Texas.Where in the SouthWest is an acceptable place to find a MINIMUM wage job and a cheap studio or apartment?
The rental prices for cheap apts/studios about the same if you look hard, but the unemployment situation is far worse in Az %26amp; NV. though if you were wanting to work as cleaning staff in Las Vegas at min wage... you could stay for free as many of the hotels there provide housing for their housekeeping staff.

There are some very different laws out here... for one none of the states listed have mandatory health care. also a couple are "right to work" states which is no more than a right for employers to rip off their already underpaid staff.

would advise trying to hook up a job before coming.Where in the SouthWest is an acceptable place to find a MINIMUM wage job and a cheap studio or apartment?
Nothing is cheap in Arizona. Of the states you listed the cheapest to live in without a doubt would be New Mexico. Remember moving from Boston you will be coming from one of the most liberal states to some of the most conservative state. If your opposed to the right of self defense the right to be armed 24/7 I'd think very hard about if I really wanted to be in the Southwest Look at the bills we have passed here in Arizona that shows you how conservative we our. The other states you listed are almost as conservative. You think you will fit in and be happy in a state like that? Only you know.Where in the SouthWest is an acceptable place to find a MINIMUM wage job and a cheap studio or apartment?
If you really, really are moving, you will find that at the moment Arizona, and Nevada, while very nice states, are suffering some of the unemployment problems that plague their neighbor California. You will probably find getting a job easier in Utah and Texas. Living on minimum wages anywhere will be very difficult.

If you tend to be the proverbial Boston "lefty" you would be more comfortable in Northeastern New Mexico. Towns like Santa Fe, and Taos. Most of the rest of the southwest tends to be quite conservative.
I'd go for New Mexico, but im biased because I love it :)

While unemployment is a problem everywhere, as long as youre not fussy you'll get a job in NM!! It is a real up and coming place for filming movies, so there is ALWAYS work available as an extra on set! (my friends do this ALL the time, but thats because theyre too lazy to go and look for anything else!) Also, if you hit somewhere like Albuquerque or Las Cruces you will always find cheap apartments as they are College towns!!

Good luck, the Southwest is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Hope this helps!
