Can black labs withstand cold/ hot weather?

I might be getting a black lab puppy and I live in salt lake city utah where it can get very cold and very hot I'm going to keep him inside while it's a puppy but I can't keep him inside when he's older because my grandma is allergic. I used to have a golden retriever and she was just fine outside.. But labs have shorter hair. So I'm just wondering, before, I get it.. What should I do to make him more comfortable outside? Can black labs withstand cold/ hot weather?
The Labrador retriever has a short, dense, water-repellent double coat that provides great resistance to cold weather, icy water and different kinds of ground cover. Their double coating helps them tolerate cold temperatures keeping them fairly comfortable in the cold weather.

Taking him out for short periods of time in extreme temperatures to walk, play and relieve himself are not a problem. Remember, this is a breed that hunters have outdoors for hours on end and in ice cold waters.

All dogs need adequate shelter from the elements. Your Labrador retriever should not be left outside for long periods in freezing weather. Like us humans your Labrador can suffer from hypothermia and frostbite. If the thermometer drops too far below freezing, it's too cold for your Labrador , even those accustomed to being outside. During these extreme drops in the temperature, accommodations indoor are best.

If you do keep your Labrador retriever out in the cold, you must supply him with the proper shelter from the weather. An insulated dog house which is large enough for him to stand, turn around, lie down and stretch, but not oversized, for it needs to hold your Labradors body heat to help keep him warm.

It should also include a heavy wind flap on the entrance door, with nonporous bedding inside. Placing the house in a sheltered location, out of the wind and on a platform to keep it off the frozen ground will also help. Be sure to keep plenty off fresh unfrozen water for him too.

-Edit-
Labs also do well in heat, as long as you provide plenty of water and even spray the dog with a hose from time to time. An area with shade (a tree or a dog house) should also be available, to get away from the sun.
Yes all dogs can do well in extreme weather conditions as long as they have the correct living conditions.

I would get a dog house or kennel that you are able to insulate when it gets to winter but that your able to take the insulation out as it gets hotter.

You can get insulation meant for rabbit cages (the outside) which is perfectly suitable for dog houses (just for the outside, you would still have to insulate the inside during winter). Can black labs withstand cold/ hot weather?
I would not get the puppy if you cannot keep it in the house. Labs are BIG time babies and want to be where you are no matter what the weather. They would get depresssed living outside all the time.

Besides that, the Lab need training early and consistently. Putting the pup/dog outside wll end up with an unbehaved and neurotic dog. Labs were bred in the north - they can take a lot more cold then you think, But summer time when its hot they should NOT be outside a lot - especially a black coated dog.

I don't think a Lab is best for your household. Maybe consider another breed that doesn't shed. Labs shed TONS.
My brothers in laws have a farm and a lab for the protection of the farm animals. He stays outside all year (they live in the Ottawa Canada area and it gets very cold and lots of snow). This dog will not come inside, he can't handle the warmth, he will only go into the unheated basement and even then he pants..His coat shines like black diamonds it is so shiny, very thick too They feed him regular dog food but with all the fat from the meat they cook. The vet recommended this which I thought was odd as too much fat can damage but he does fine. His coat repels all the water and his favorite place to be in the winter is sitting on a snowbank watching the farm animals..Can black labs withstand cold/ hot weather?
Lab, as in Labrador? He will do fine in the cold. In the heat, maybe not so good. Make sure he has shade, ventilation, and water. It terns out dog allergies have little to do with the breed. Some Labs are no problem. There is a saliva test that is experimental and expensive.
If your dog has to live outside then get a dog with a double layer of fur, like a Golden Retriever or a German Shepherd. Labs don't have the extra fur and will not be happy outside and will suffer terribly in winter which is cruel.
i have a labrador, but i live in a place where it isn't very cold, but i don't think you should get one if you intend to keep him outside the all time.
