I was thinking about relocating to salt lake city,Utah?

how is it there by means of public trasportaion, weather, and resterants around the area ?I was thinking about relocating to salt lake city,Utah?
My first question would be where do you live now and why are you considering moving to SLC? We lived in a suburb of SLC for almost 2 years and loved it...but I wouldn't say it is the place for everyone.

SLC itself does have public transportation and there certainly are some that extend into the suburbs - but only as a means for getting into SLC. I can't imagine living there without a car, but I have always had one.

SLC and the surrounding communities are wonderful and the scenery is beautiful. There is most definitely shopping and restaurants! There are chains and wonderful private establishments...the suburbs have a lot of choices as well.

The weather is really quite nice. You have all four seasons if you live in the Salt Lake Valley. Because of the low humidity, the summer heat and winter cold see to be less severe. You should keep in mind the "inversion" that happens every winter. I'm not a scientist, but basically what happens is all the pollution and "gunk" sink into the valley and stays there until a good rain/snowfall. It is depressing and alot of people will drive up into the mountains to see sunshine. If you have respiratory problems, I understand it can be an issue as well. It is a weird experience to be sure, but I wouldn't say it is a reason to avoid the area.

You should keep in mind that this is the home of the LDS faith and the state laws reflect that.

It is difficult to "sin" in Utah. For example, alcohol must be served with food and only so much at a time can be served. (Think a cosmopolitan that needs to be served in a glass and a "sidecar" because there is too much alcohol in the drink to be served as a single serving) There are bars and such, but they are mostly "clubs" and you have to purchase a membership to go in. The single people we knew when we lived there typically had a bilfold of membership cards if they wanted to go out bar hopping on the weekend.

While most of Utah is LDS, you will find more liberal people in SLC and Park City.

Like everything in life, it's all what you want. We are not LDS and never really had any issues with our neighbors over it...but we are church-going people of faith and I think that makes a difference. I'm not sure you would be so readily accepted if you were not affiliated with some organized religion.

I would really recommend taking a long weekend and visiting the area if you have never been there. Go to the places you would go if you chose to move there. Talk to the people (they are some of the friendliest I've ever met!) and see if you feel comfortable.

Good luck in your decision!I was thinking about relocating to salt lake city,Utah?
Ok, first of all getting around Salt Lake City is so easy. It's not a wagon wheel its a grid system and it makes life SO much easier once you figure it out. Salt Lake is an interesting place. Public transportation inside Salt Lake is really easy, cheap and efficient by using TRAX, the light rail system. But don't count on any other public transit. The weather is nice, our seasons are very distinct. In the winter its usually about 30-40 degrees and in summer 80-90. There are lots of great restaurants. Outside Salt Lake its hard to find anywhere that is not a chain, but in Salt Lake there are lots of cool, unique places. Theres also a lot to do. Some of the greatest skiing and snowboarding on earth, the Utah jazz, u of u football, aquariums, planetariums, museums and lots of shopping. It's a great place to live!I was thinking about relocating to salt lake city,Utah?
Visited Taylorsville outside of SLC for a few weeks. I was unimpressed. Yes the scenery is beautiful....but you don't live int he scenery. Thee SLC is set up like a wagon wheel and the streets are horrible to navigate....better buy one of those navigational systems for your car. Go on line and look at a street map for SLC, you will see what I mean. UGH!!!
